The AGE reader: Cardiovascular risk factors and measuring your real age

Your real age: The condition of the vascular system

The AGE reader measures cardiovascular risk factors

With our AGE reader it is possible to make an assessment of cardiovascular risk factors. These are the presence of glycated proteins in tissue. These play an important role in the development of cardiovascular disease and diabetes (and its complications). Over time, the body builds up more and more glycated proteins, but this development is faster in patients with conditions such as diabetes mellitus, kidney failure and cardiovascular disease. In addition, they play an active role in the development of vascular complications.

Sugared proteins are also called Advanced Glycation Endproducts, hence the name AGE reader.

Skin ageing

AGEs accumulate throughout your life and play a central role in the development of wrinkles and reduced skin elasticity, which can lead to an older appearance.

What does the measurement show?

The measurement result of the AGE Reader is an easy to interpret report of the cardiovascular risk. The measurement result is compared to the reference values of healthy subjects and is shown in a color-coded graph. The green and yellow areas indicate that there is no increased risk. If the measurement result is in the orange or red area, this indicates an increased accumulation of AGEs in the tissue and thus an increased risk of having or developing cardiovascular disease or diabetes or an indicator for having or developing wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity and generally older looking skin.
